Who We Are
The San Juan
Animal League is a non-profit, all-volunteer humane society for
animals located in Farmington, New Mexico. It was started in 1974.
The league includes a Board of Directors and a membership who work
to improve the lives of animals in San Juan County.
The San Juan Animal League is a nonprofit, 501 (c) (3) organization
registered in the state of New Mexico. The League is financed by
annual memberships, donations, moneys collected for a variety of
items sold at events, and moneys brought in by the low-cost
vaccination clinics organized by the League.
What We Do
Our primary
goal is to alleviate suffering in the animal population within San
Juan County. We advocate, encourage, and support spaying and
neutering of dogs and cats. More fixed animals result in fewer
unwanted litters and better general health. To this end we have a
Spay/Neuter Program that provides financial assistance to people who
want to have their pets fixed. In 2002, this program helped with the
spay/neuter of almost 200 dogs and cats. Since 2001 the San Juan
Animal League has partnered with No More Homeless Pets of New Mexico
to provide spays and neuters for only $5.00/pet.
The League works toward the prevention of disease in area animal
populations by providing low-cost vaccination clinics eight times a
year. This enables people who could otherwise not afford to give
preventative treatment to their animals to inoculate them against
the most common and deadly pet diseases. The Rabies Clinic Program
is extremely successful and has provided many people with the
opportunity to keep their pets healthy. In 2002, over 3,200 dogs and
cats were vaccinated at these clinics.
The Education Program finds opportunities to educate members of the
community with regard to the needs and responsibilities of pet
ownership. The San Juan Animal League sponsors affordable or free
dog obedience classes and public service announcement programs.
The League provides support and assistance to pets and owners
thorough our website and through special programs such as emergency
food and medical care, Pet of the Week in conjunction with the
Farmington Animal Shelter, Happy Holidays for Needy Pets at
Christmastime, and spay/neuter projects. |
